Medvedev's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his service game in specific - resulted in him dropping out of the elite rankings and ultimately separating with long-term mentor his previous coach.

Currently working with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has consistently progressed in the last few weeks - peaking in a closely contested three-set victory over opponent Moutet.

It is his maiden title after the Italian tournament and first on a hard surface since that period of that year.

The win also signifies he has secured twenty-one victories at 21 different tournaments.

"For the first time I'm at a event with my two daughters simultaneously, so to secure a title is really nice," commented tennis professional the champion.

"This championship is in dedication of my second daughter my daughter, because the first title I achieved when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had been defeated in his last six finals, comprising in that event previously this season.

The player's counter-punching approach and regular reactions on the tennis court had caused some to doubt if his ability to compete at the elite level was over.

However the athlete has made changes in the last few weeks, making an effort to advance forward and play assertively, reinforced by an improved serve.

He fought back from a disadvantage in the first set against the difficult Frenchman, taking 4 of the last five games to take the lead.

The pair exchanged breaks in the middle set before the challenger, striving for his initial tour title, seized the initiative to create a decider.

The opponent defended 4 early break points in a tight third set before the Russian broke to 15 to secure the win.

Appropriately, the winner secured the win with a shot at the front of the court, with Moutet failing to handle a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
